Valjevo – our small Italy

We have been here for one month and we already got in love with this city and its people. Valjevo is a small city, but undoubtedly very beautiful one with its own charm. The roofs that are made by brick-red tile reminds us of the small villages in Italy, so we now call Valjevo “little Italy”. People here are very polite and helpful. It is an example for other nations how they should act with strangers and with each other.
Now, we would like to speak of Valjevo in the time we experienced before the virus lockdown. What we came to love and enjoy most here are the small pedestrian streets with a lot of cafés on both sides. The city is crossed by 2 rivers, so in the morning or at sunset normally you can get a drink on the river bank.
Although we are the only Erasmus students here in this semester, we have had a lot of fun. We made Serbian friends and we hang out almost every day. If you would like to know what a real party is, go to a Serbian pub.
At the moment we are forced to stay home because of the situation in the country and all over the world, but we continue to enjoy our time here in Valjevo. We hope in the near future the virus will pass and we will be able to explore more cities and beautiful places in Serbia.
Regarding Singidunum University and academic activities, the faculty representatives and professors are very gentle and nice with us, they help us permanently. We would like to emphasize our face-to-face lessons which were a great opportunity to find out more information about Serbian culture and people. Ms Ivana Damnjanović has a great contribution to our accommodation; she helped us and still helps us to face some of problems, thank you very much for this!
Unfortunately, the university is now closed, so we are having our lessons online on the university platform. However, the studying online is also really nice.
We are enjoying our stay and studies here despite the ongoing situation and we are sure we will be able to enjoy even more after this all passes.
